Elder Abuse Awareness Day
June 13, 2014
Gov. Mark Dayton has proclaimed Sunday, June 15, as Elder Abuse Awareness Day in Minnesota, as a time to promote better understanding and address under-recognized problems with abuse, neglect and financial exploitation of elders and vulnerable adults.
Jean Wood, DHS Aging and Adult Services director, said that Minnesota is improving the ways it prevents, detects, reports and addresses abuse of vulnerable adults, but still has a long way to go.
“As older adults and people with disabilities make up a larger proportion of our population, all of us need to be increasingly vigilant that the health, safety and dignity of all people are consistently maintained,” she said.
More information on adult protection is available on the DHS adult protection pages on the DHS public website.
