Older American's Month
May 21, 2015
Nationwide, May is Older Americans Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions of older Americans. Older Americans Month provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of community engagement as a tool for enhancing the wellbeing of older adults. This year, the theme for Older Americans Month is Get in the Act. Getting into the act can make the benefits of community living a reality for older Americans. Together we can promote healthy aging, increase community involvement for older adults, and tackle important issues like the prevention of elder abuse. Governor Mark Dayton recently issued a proclamation declaring May 2015 as Older Americans Month in the State of Minnesota. In it, he urges citizens to honor older adults who volunteer, work, and contribute to their communities; and family members, professionals, and volunteers who care for older adults.
